war in donbass
In the summer of 2014, following the events in Kyiv and the Annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, a war broke out in eastern Ukraine. In the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, separatist republics were declared, demanding independence from Ukraine and the creation of the so-called Novorossiya (New Russia). The Ukrainian army tried to take full control of the area but was pushed by "pro-Russian separatists" supported by the Russian Federation, both materially and personally. The advancement of pro-Russian troops was halted only near the town of Mariupol by the Sea of Azov. Since 2014, the conflict has claimed 13,000 lives, about 1,5 million people have had to move out. Ukraine still has no control over its eastern border, and the conflict still continues today.
This set was created in the spring of 2015 in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic, in 2016 in the Ukraine-controlled Donetsk region, and in 2017 in the Ukraine-controlled Luhansk and Donetsk region.
